1888 John Sterland established a tank making and plumbing supplies business in Gosford
1918 John’s sons, Alf & Arthur join the business and establish the retail firm of Sterland Brothers.
1927 expanded business to include building materials and household supplies
1938 Instrumental in establishing Gosford Brick, Tile & Pipe Pty Ltd
1940 Imported a modern pipe making plant
1954 Sterland Arcade was opened
1960’s Acquired hardware businesses at Woy Woy, Long Jetty & Toukley
1965 Sold timber Mill site to Woolworths & established a single complex incorporating a timber mill, truss plant, builders supply centre and retail hardware store.
1976 One of the 1st in the world to automate it’s house frame design and manufacturing operations.
1977 Kit Homes division established
1984 STICS (Sterlands Timber Information Control System) is marketed and sold to other timber merchants.
1985 Sterland Computing Systems was established to manage new software business.
1989 Maurice Sterland retires and Sterland Bros break up their empire. The staff of Sterland Computer Systems (SPJ, Larry, Tom, Eric) buy the rights to the software package and together with Maurice Sterland form a new company Sterland Computing Pty Ltd.
1991 Purchased Goldsmith Brothers at Smithfield
1992
  • 1st company in timber industry to particpate in Federal Government’s prestigious Best Practice Demonstration Program.
  • Development of a new packageusing Progress as the foundation database. The package is called STIX (Sterlands Information Executive). This creates confusion with STICS so it becomes known as Progress STIX which evolves into ProStix.
1993 The first Prostix customer is signed up (Timberfast) at Wyong
1999 Major push to convert all STICS customers to ProStix (STICS is not Y2K compliant)
2006 Introduced ProStix Smart Store
2009 Sterland Computing 25th Anniversary
